Photos of a rainy April day.
There used to be “historical markers” in this spot that outlined history of Washington Square Park. As part of the redesign, the signs were supposed to be reviewed by Community Board 2; they were put up even though they never were, and then one day they disappeared. No information about the placements or removals was ever provided. At a Community Board Parks Committee meeting last year, NYC Parks Administrator Will Morrison said they were being worked on. I mentioned that the copy was supposed to be run by CB2 and he said it would be. The space remains blank while a big sign advertising private Washington Square Park Conservancy – this sign also never approved or brought before the CB, the controversial private organization does not run the park but has a lot of hands in the pot amidst its “murky” beginnings – remains.
